چکیده
Bar racks are commonly installed to divert fish away from water intakes, such as those at hydropower stations or other abstraction points. In temperate regions their effectiveness has predominantly been assessed in relation diadromous species, salmon and eel. This study compared the efficacy of horizontally vertically oriented (5 mm diameter 10 spacing) guide downstream moving groups five chub (Squalius cephalus) barbel (Barbus barbus) a bypass channel recirculating flume under two discharge regimes, with rack angled either 30° 45° direction flow. Regardless treatment, bulk flow passed through bars resulting lack well-established sweeping across face, consequently many instances entrainment impingement occurred. Total guidance (the number entries expressed percentage total approaches) was low comparable between species means 21.3% 24.8% for barbel, respectively. orientation had limited influence on all metrics, exception events which higher vertical treatment. Interspecific differences entrainments exhibition fine-scale avoidance behaviours were apparent, being chub. conclusion, used here not suitable guiding juvenile cyprinids conditions similar tested. Accounting interspecific reducing behaviour important factors that should be considered advancing screens multiple species.

The aim of this study was to analyze 16 trace elements (Al, As, B, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Sr, and Zn) in different barbel (Barbus barbus) tissues and to detect the presence of genotoxic effects in erythrocytes with the alkaline comet assay. The chub is an opportunistic, rheophilic cyprinid species and popular gamefish distributed throughout almost all of Europe, South Caucasus and part of Anatolia. It is most abundant in small rivers and large streams. The process of anatomical and cytological differentiation was analyzed in chub gonads. Material used in the study was derived from artificial spawning of adult individuals caught in...
متن کاملCharacterizing the trophic niches of stocked and resident cyprinid fishes: consistency in partitioning over time, space and body sizes
Hatchery-reared fish are commonly stocked into freshwaters to enhance recreational angling. As these fishes are often of high trophic position and attain relatively large sizes, they potentially interact with functionally similar resident fishes and modify food-web structure. Hatchery-reared barbel Barbus barbus are frequently stocked to enhance riverine cyprinid fish communities in Europe; the...

Barbel (Barbus bocagei) a common species in Portuguese rivers was studied to assess the impact of water contamination on hepatic oxidative stress response, lipid peroxidation and histology. The Vizela River is a tributary of the Ave River, located in one of the most industrialized areas of Portugal. The oxidative stress biomarkers analyzed included superoxide dismutase, catalase, glutathione S-...
